Maresa von Stockert has recently created several audiovisual works :

Venu et Parti (2024/25),  Dans la lumière d’automne (2024/25), Escalier vers la troisième étage (2025/26) and Encadré (2025/26). The artist is currently in the editing and post-production phase of the latter two works.

Each of the above projects included artistic residencies, in-situ rehearsal and filming periods resulting in the creation of eight films with their soundscapes (in total over 60 minutes of video). The works are linked as they were all created in the same building, the Pavillon Marthe de la Beausse, in Baugé, Maine-et-Loire, France. This heritage building is currently inaccessible to the public. Its owner, the city of Baugé-en-Anjou, granted the artist access from 2023 – 25, to plan and realise this long-term project that gives new life to the building and makes it accessible to the wider public on film.

Each project features different parts of this vast building and explores the site from its own distinct point of view:
Venu et Parti (Come and Gone) draws on anecdotes, witness accounts and sources of inspiration from the history of the Pavillon.
Dans la lumière d’automne (In the light of autumn)  focuses on the effect the automnal change in natural light and temperature has on the building, how we perceive it and how it transforms the performers’ movements as well as the site itself.
Escalier vers la troisième étage (Staircase to the Third Floor) explores the passage of time and the rites of passage from childhood to old age as it takes us on a journey from the first to the fourth floor via the old wooden staircase.
Encadré (Framed) explores the concept of framing both through the carefully chosen camera lenses and angles as well as through the frames provided by the building – physical frames – such as doorways, alcoves, windows, beams, etc. – but also through framing within a historical context.

Intergenerational community engagement programmes were integral to all the creative processes, artistic residencies and outcomes! Find out more about the participation programmes via this link.

A photo exhibition called Sous un nouveau jour will present images of some of the scenes filmed in 2024 and 2025. The exhibition will be presented in Baugé-en-Anjou from June to August 2026 before presentations in Germany and in the UK.

The audiovisual exhibition Un Souffle de Marthe (Ein Hauch von Marthe/ A trace of Marthe) featuring all eight films will be premiered in 2027 in France, followed by German and UK exhibitions and screenings. More details will be announced this autumn!
