Integrating moving bodies into the vast landscapes of coast lines and framing them in the architecture of the outdoors, SEASAW playfully dissects existential questions exploring the impact of man on nature, and vice versa. Merging contemporary dance and performance art, the site-responsive promenade piece plays with depth of field as it invites audiences to watch from varying distances, intimately close to afar.

SEASAW’s extensive national and international tour included: Brighton Festival (Brighton, UK); Espace Michel-Simon (Noisy le Grand, FR); Festival Furies (Chalons en Champagne, FR); Festival Z’Arts Up! (Bethune, FR); Greenwich + Docklands International Festival (London, UK); Nausicaa (Boulogne sur Mer, FR); Norfolk and Norwich Festival (Cromer, North Norfolk, UK); Out There Festival (Great Yarmouth, UK); Pavilion Dance (Bournemouth, UK); Oerol (Terschelling, NL); Urban Moves (Manchester, UK); Stockton International Riverside Festival (Stockton-on-Tees, UK); Viva Cité (Sotteville lès Rouen, FR).

Running time: 60 – 70 minutes depending on promenade route

“…Each performance was genuinely unique, attributable to original ideas and the subsequent creativity borne out of working in an outdoor site-specific setting. The work is engaging, challenging, witty, beautiful and poignant…”

“One of the most memorable performances betrayed seabirds in an oil slick…, it was a very powerful scene evoking a very serious issue, but to the children it appeared comical. This skill in making dances diverse enough to provoke different reactions ran throughout many of the pieces, due to clever choreography from Maresa von Stockert. … SEASAW created an hour of entertainment which remained with the viewer. It was beautifully performed, coordinated and delivered and wonderfully different.”
Jessica Marshall Mchattie, The Argus, 21 May 2012

“An outdoor dance event is difficult enough to arrange but an outdoor site-specific promenade dance extravaganza is quite different. SEASAW is all of that.”
Kevin Berry, The Stage, Sept. 2012

“…Von Stockert’s evocation of the sea includes pollution and environmental damage but it also has myths and poetry….The performance is truly site-specific, making use of the landscape to hand…A model of how to do a promenade performance.
